Red, gold and black are colours that define Bayonetta.
For the redesign I went all out and used my impressions of Oda Nobunaga combined with Tomoe Gozen as a base.
At first I wanted to give her a traditional demon-shaped face guard, but then we wouldn't be able to tell who she is, and the whole "beauty" aspect is lost.
So instead I gave her a skull shaped mask with an open jaw where her glasses would've been.
In the game her costume is made out of her hair, and the bigger finishing moves you pull off, the more her costume unravels and you'll get to see a whole lot more of Bayonetta. *cough
I showed a little skin here and there, if she showed too much there wouldn't be much room for me to make a real costume design.
The hellhound/wolf mount she's riding on I took design cues from Hideki Kamiya's previous game "Okami" and kept similar aspects from Bayonetta's familiars like the golden mesh, purple-blue-red-black colour scheme, and chained restraints.
