Artist's Comments

Another unofficial Rotogin illustration by yours truly. The original concept was to have the lead character Dakota walk down Chinatown hours before her match with the mech lightweight champ Siris [lady with the white dreads] who she so happens to idly walk by without noticing. TV spots for the rotogin match are on display everywhere and people are staring going, "DUDE, ARE THOSE SOME REAL HOT COSPLAYERS OR WHAT- NO WAIT- OH SH-!!!" If no one knows what Rotogin is all about, get the comic :) or find some synopses online, too tired to repeat LOL. The sketch was actually from last summer, so I picked up where I left off from the previous PSD save before "the big PC crash of 2004"; otherwise this would've been done LONG AGO. Honest to god, colouring this was a pain from the start to the bitter end. Lots of things went wrong with this image, everything from anatomy to perspective and adding and losing details. Things always seem to look different in the sketchbook until you scan it in. Gave me so much trouble I was going into an on and off phase teetering between actually finishing this or just slap on the logo and leave it. I'd have added more details, but I know when I shrink this I'll lose them all again, thought about adding more wires in the sky for streetcars or whatever but with the lack of both lighting and persepctive I'm leaving it as is. I'm using brighter colours than usual but I still feel like I'm using the same damn colour pallete LOL. This somewhat made for good practice but it was more like a test of patience. IZ DONE!! I'M NOT TOUCHIN THIS ANY MORE AARHHHGHGH X3;;;!!

What I absolutely adore about Chinatown by ~axl99 is not only the incredible colouring and impressive background, but the story/concept that goes along with this story. The artist's description really captivated me and took me away from just the painting and more into the world that they drew. I love it when an artist can do that, and help me to interpret their work. Wonderful job! (Suggested by `lazybutt and Featured by `guruubii)

Might have been painful to create but a true joy to behold :D
Lovely coloring! The only thing I can think of that could be improved might be a bit more shading..some of the characters seem a bit flat :)
